DESCRIPTION:Dentro e fuori il sistema: dallo zhuantipian ad “I have graduated 我毕业了” (SWYC Film Group\, 1992)\, di Désirée Marianini \nNegli anni Ottanta il documentario televisivo cinese si attualizza attraverso il modello dello zhuantipian 专题片\, serie storico-culturali che\, pur affacciandosi alle coproduzioni internazionali e a nuove soluzioni tecniche\, mantengono una funzione pedagogica e una continuità con il realismo socialista. In questo contesto\, River Elegy 河殇 (Wang Luxiang\, 1988) documentario mandato in onda nel 1988 e I have graduated 我毕业了 (SWYC Film Group\, 1992) passato invece nei canali alternativi di fruizione\, rappresentano una frattura significativa: pur adottando il linguaggio televisivo entrambe le opere indagano criticamente come il passato si innesta nel futuro. Tra continuità ideologica e spazi di negoziazione\, gli autori e registi di documentari degli anni Ottanta funzionano da ponte per ciò che avverrà nel decennio successivo. \nTerzo e ultimo seminario nell’ambito del ciclo dedicato all’audiovisivo in Cina e organizzato nell’ambito dei corsi di studio in Lingue per la Comunicazione Interculturale e d’Impresa e Lingue per l’Impresa e lo Sviluppo\, con il supporto dell’Aula Confucio di Arezzo. \nvenerdì 15 maggio\, ore 11.00-12.00 – Aula 19 (Palazzina Uomini) \nUniversità di Siena-Campus di Arezzo \nViale Cittadini\, 33 \n____________ \nDesirèe Marianini ha conseguito un Master in Lingua Cinese presso l’Università Sapienza di Roma e ha completato una specializzazione in Regia e Sviluppo di Progetti presso la scuola di documentario\, televisione e nuovi media ZeLIG in Italia. È attualmente dottoranda presso l’Università Sapienza\, dove la sua ricerca indaga il riuso creativo dei materiali d’archivio nel documentario cinese contemporaneo. Ha ricoperto incarichi di docenza in Lingua Cinese e in Lingue e Letterature della Cina e del Sud-est asiatico presso l’Università della Tuscia (Viterbo\, Italia) e la LUMSA (Roma\, Italia). Ha inoltre insegnato Traduzione Audiovisiva all’interno del Master di secondo livello in Traduzione Specializzata presso l’Università Sapienza di Roma. Oltre all’attività accademica\, lavora come traduttrice narrativa e documentarista.

Through a dialogue between Soviet Latvia and reform-era China\, the seminar focuses on threshold spaces (limina) where identity\, memory\, and language intersect. In these contexts\, marginality is not only the periphery of power but also a site for producing alternative discourses\, often in tension with official languages and rhetoric. \nThe film Mātes piens (Soviet Milk)\, based on the novel by Nora Ikstena\, portrays the trauma of Soviet rule through a narrative where body and language overlap: silence\, censorship\, and the internalization of ideological discourse create a communicative fracture between generations. Linguistic marginality—between Latvian and Russian\, between private and public speech—thus becomes an integral part of the colonial experience. \nSimilarly\, Chinese documentary filmmaking of the 1990s redefined the relationship between image and language: the use of xianchang (“what happens in front of the camera”) reduces discursive mediation and foregrounds vernacular language\, dialects\, silences\, and hesitation. In the work of Gu Tao\, language is not only a medium of communication but also an index of belonging and marginality: the voices of ethnic minorities\, often excluded from standard Mandarin\, carry alternative memories and worldviews. \nAcross both contexts\, tensions emerge between: official language and lived language; institutional narration and individual storytelling; visibility and silence. Marginality thus also takes the form of a linguistic condition: to speak “from the margins” often means using minority\, hybrid\, or non-standard languages—or resisting the dominant language through silence\, ambiguity\, or fragmentation. \nThe seminar invites reflection on key questions: \n\nHow do linguistic and cultural policies in socialist and post-socialist contexts shape cultural production?\nWhat is the relationship between language\, identity\, and power in marginal areas?\nHow can cinema preserve non-hegemonic forms of language without assimilating them into dominant narratives?\n\nSituated at the intersection of Slavic and Sinology studies\, Limina proposes a comparative perspective in which marginality emerges as a critical site of resistance—political\, cultural\, and linguistic—capable of challenging boundaries between center and periphery\, voice and silence\, history and memory. \nThe seminar will be held in English \nOrganized within the framework of the degree programme in Languages for Intercultural and Business Communication and the MA program Languages for Business and Development\, with the support of the Confucius Classroom of Arezzo. \nLimina_concept \n

DESCRIPTION:The Cultivation of a New Generation of Overseas Sinologists—Starting with Content-Based Instruction in Written Chinese\, by Liu Lening \nThe training of overseas Sinologists in written Chinese forms the foundation of their overall professional development. While previous approaches to teaching written Chinese have placed significant emphasis on enhancing students’ linguistic competence\, they have fallen short in leveraging language instruction to advance their academic capabilities\, such as their understanding of Chinese intellectual and literary history. To address this shortcoming\, implementing a Content-Based Multiliteracies Approach offers an effective solution. This method emphasizes the use of authentic instructional materials\, highlights the integration of cultural connotations within language teaching\, adopts a flipped classroom model\, and pays particular attention to the individual developmental needs of learners. Using two Chinese language courses at Columbia University—Readings in Modern Chinese Intellectual History and Vernacular Chinese and Modern Chinese Literature—as examples\, this lecture provides a systematic introduction to the content\, methods\, and assessment practices of this new approach to international Chinese language education. Building on this\, the speaker aims to present a fundamental perspective on international Chinese language teaching in the age of AI: such teaching must be guided by relevant theories\, and the use of technology must respect the natural principles of language acquisition and learning. It is essential to enhance student engagement both inside and outside the classroom and to strengthen their ability to collaborate with technology. The application of technological tools should not come at the expense of interpersonal interaction. \nOrganized within the framework of the degree programmes in Languages for Intercultural and Business Communication and Languages for Business and Development\, with the support of the Confucius Classroom of Arezzo. \nFriday 22 May\, h. 12.00-13.30 – Room 19 (Palazzina Uomini) \nSiena University – Arezzo Campus\,  Viale Cittadini\, 33 \n_________________ \nLiu Lening works in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University\, where he also serves as the Director of the Graduate Program in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. He previously held long-term positions as Director of the Chinese Language Program at Columbia and as the American Co-Director of the Confucius Institute. With decades of dedication to the field of international Chinese language education\, Liu has played a pivotal role in designing Columbia University’s two-year Master’s program in Chinese Pedagogy within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences\, as well as the TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate program. His research encompasses syntax\, discourse grammar\, and Chinese language pedagogy. He has led the publication of multiple Chinese language textbooks and academic monographs. Liu has served as a standing director of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching for nearly two decades. He is also the editor-in-chief of International Chinese Language Education (Hong Kong)\, a member of the editorial board for several academic journals\, and co-editor of the Routledge Series on Chinese Language Education.

DESCRIPTION:Dentro il calcio professionistico cinese: Linguaggio tecnico e vita sul terreno di gioco\, di Jacopo Maria Mazzanti \nLa lezione di terminologia calcistica segue un percorso cronologico\, raccontando la mia esperienza personale e professionale in Cina: inizio dalla prima città in cui mi sono trasferito all’età di 27 anni e mezzo\, senza alcuna conoscenza della Cina né della lingua cinese\, e proseguo città dopo città\, fino alla settima e ultima tappa del mio percorso. Con il passare degli anni e dei club nei quali ho lavorato come allenatore di calcio\, allenando e comunicando interamente in lingua cinese\, il mio livello linguistico è cresciuto progressivamente\, passando dall’HSK 3 all’HSK 6. Durante il quarto e ultimo anno\, ho lavorato nella Chinese Super League (Serie A cinese) per un club in lotta per il titolo\, di proprietà della stessa holding dell’Internazionale Milano\, ricoprendo il ruolo di traduttore simultaneo in campo e fuori dal campo per il direttore sportivo Fausto Pizzi (ex campione di Inter\, Parma e Napoli). Le slide finali presentano i lavori svolti al mio rientro in Italia. Durante la lezione approfondisco il motivo per cui ho scritto due manuali di terminologia calcistica\, nati da un apprendimento diretto “sul campo”\, analizzando frasi calcistiche esemplificative\, termini tecnici\, ruoli dei giocatori\, specificità del campo da calcio e una scheda di allenamento reale\, utilizzata come esame pratico per la licenza China D\, che mi ha reso il primo e unico allenatore straniero ufficialmente riconosciuto dalla Federazione Calcistica Cinese. \nSeminario organizzato nell’ambito dei corsi di studio in Lingue per la Comunicazione Interculturale e d’Impresa e Lingue per l’Impresa e lo Sviluppo\, con il supporto dell’Aula Confucio di Arezzo. \nMercoledì 27 maggio 2026\, ore 10.15  Aula 3 (Palazzina Ex Ram) \nUniversità di Siena-Campus di Arezzo \nViale Cittadini\, 33 \n________________ \nJacopo Maria Mazzanti è allenatore di calcio certificato UEFA B ed esperto di terminologia calcistica in cinese\, ha vissuto in Cina per quasi cinque anni collaborando con otto club professionistici\, tra cui realtà legate a Manchester City\, Borussia Mönchengladbach\, Inter e Jiangsu Suning. Ha lavorato quotidianamente in cinese (livello HSK 6) ed è il primo allenatore straniero a ottenere la licenza China D della Federazione Calcistica Cinese. Ha operato nella Chinese Super League come traduttore simultaneo per la dirigenza sportiva di un club di vertice\, collaborando con il direttore sportivo Fausto Pizzi. È autore di due manuali di terminologia calcistica cinese\, patrocinati dall’Istituto Confucio di Milano e dall’AIAC\, presenti anche nella biblioteca dell’Università di Oxford. Svolge inoltre un’intensa attività divulgativa\, tenendo lezioni e seminari in Europa presso Istituti Confucio e università. \n
