SUMMARY:Online Seminar Series Ways of State-Building in Contemporary China
DESCRIPTION:The seminar series Ways of State-Building in Contemporary China explores the multifaceted processes of state-building in contemporary China\, focusing on the interplay between policies of economic development\, infrastructure expansion\, bordering and (im)mobility\, and language and education reforms as key mechanisms through which power is spatially and symbolically consolidated. The talks examine how state visions are articulated through both discourse and material practices in everyday life\, particularly in areas directly or indirectly governed by state power\, such as tourism\, education\, and urbanisation. Special attention is dedicated to China’s peripheries\, often marginalised in mainstream analyses but central to long-standing strategies of governance and national integration. DESCRIPTION:  \nPROGETTO CINA VENEZIA 4-5 novembre 2025 \nConferenza Il teatro di figura nella Cina orientale: analisi culturale e delle pratiche performative delle marionette del Zhejiang Relatore: Francesco Serratore (Zhejiang Conservatory of Music) 4 novembre 2025\, Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia\, Dipartimento di Studi sull’Asia e sull’Africa Mediterranea\, S. Sebastiano\, Sala conferenze ore 17.00 \nAbstract della Conferenza: Abstract\nLa lezione propone un’introduzione alle tradizioni performative del teatro di figura cinese\,\ncon particolare attenzione alle marionette a filo dello Zhejiang\, dove musica\, rito e mito si\nintrecciano in un linguaggio estetico complesso e stratificato. Attraverso esempi video e\ndimostrazioni pratiche\, si esploreranno le connessioni tra i contesti rituali tradizionali\, le\nnarrazioni mitiche (come quelle degli Otto Immortali o del Re delle Scimmie) e la\ndrammaturgia musicale che ne accompagna le rappresentazioni.\nUn focus specifico sarà dedicato al sistema di notazione wenzipu (文字谱)\, una forma di\nscrittura musicale basata su caratteri cinesi utilizzata per trasmettere formule ritmiche\nlegate al repertorio strumentale tradizionale. Attraverso l’analisi di queste pratiche\, avremo\nanche modo di vedere in cambiamenti in atto nello stile performativo dei marionettisti\, che\nsono dovuti alla modernizzazione della Cina e ai processi di patrimonializzazione delle arti\nperformative. \nSpettacolo Da Baxian (打八仙)\, “La Rappresentazione degli Otto Immortali” 5 novembre 2025\, Fondazione Giorgio Cini\, Sala Arazzi ore 18.00 \nAbstract dello Spettacolo: Il presente spettacolo mette in scena la tradizione del teatro di marionette a filo\, forma d’arte profondamente radicata nella cultura della provincia del Zhejiang e riconosciuta come patrimonio culturale immateriale della Repubblica Popolare Cinese. La rappresentazione di Da Baxian\, ovvero “Gli Otto Immortali”\, è un classico della drammaturgia figurativa cinese\, spesso catalogato come baxianxi (八仙戏)\, “Opera degli Otto Immortali”. Questo tipo di rappresentazioni rientra nel complesso sistema del teatro cinese che unisce pratiche rituali\, espressioni drammaturgiche e tradizioni popolari ed è particolarmente legato alla tradizione Daoista.
