"Cinesi in Italia"
|
Nell’ambito della notte europea dei Ricercatori e delle Ricercatrici, l'Università degli Studi di Torino ha realizzato, in collaborazione con l'Istituto Confucio, il documentario Cinesi in Italia, lavoro di ricognizione della presenza cinese nel nostro paese. Il documentario è stato realizzato attraverso recentissime interviste raccolte fra Torino, Milano, Firenze, Prato, Roma, Napoli, Bologna e Trieste.
|
Il lavoro è stato possibile grazie alla a collaborazione attiva della chat sino-italiana “Dialogo” e vuole essere un punto di partenza che stimoli allo studio e alla ricerca; l’amplissimo materiale documentario raccolto verrà messo a disposizione degli studiosi da parte dell’Istituto Confucio.

Online Conference
"Small, Medium and Great Powers' Response to US-China Strategic Competition", University of Zurich
A special focus shall be on the newly formed “Cold War” between China and the USA, with its potential to reshape regional order in the Asia-Pacific.
Furthermore, the conference will analyse how different countries in Asia and Europe will react to the US/China rift and what strategies and positions said nations shall utilize in the future to deal with the two superpowers. Among these are Switzerland, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea and Japan.
On the second day of the conference, December 5, 2020, military experts, academics and politicians will exchange their views during a roundtable discussion.
The conference will take place online via Microsoft Teams. We kindly ask interested participants to register via the Eventbrite link below and you shall then receive the link before the conference.

Topics of interests include but are not limited to the following:

- Notions of popularizing discourse, language simplification, intralingual translation, textual comprehensibility, and the correlated view of language obscurity and opacity, in different textual traditions;
- Investigations on language features, discourse strategies and textual practices related to notions of ‘simple’ language (i.e. simple literary Chinese, popular literary Chinese, plain language, traditional discussions on categories like su 俗, wen 文, ya 雅, qian 淺 etc);
- Practices of language transformation and textual modes of transmission in relation to genre categorization and to the emergence of new genres;
- Agents, networks, media engaged in practices of knowledge transmission and linguistic transformation;
- Digital tools for the investigation of textual transmission and linguistic transformation.
According to the workshop format, papers presentation should be 30 minutes long with 15 minutes for questions and discussions. The language of the workshop is English.

For its second volume, the Journal of the European Association for Chinese Studies invites scholars
to submit papers dealing with aspects of youth in the pre-modern, modern, and contemporary Chinese

Position:
University Assistant (post doc) at the Department of East Asian Studies
The Department of East Asian Studies/Sinology seeks to appoint a Post-Doc position in modern Chinese culture and history of the duration of 6 years. The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 February 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applications are invited from early-career scholars working on topics related to the cultures and histories of China and the Chinese-speaking region since the twentieth century. Possible areas of expertise include social, cultural, and intellectual history, cultural studies, and literary studies. Expertise in more than one region (e.g. China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, diaspora, inter-Asia) and historical approaches to the study of modern and contemporary Chinese culture and cultural production are especially welcome.
Applicants will hold a doctorate (PhD) in Chinese/Asian Studies or related disciplines and will have an outstanding record of, or clear potential for, world-leading research and publications. They will have an excellent oral and written command of English and Chinese, and proven experience of conducting fieldwork and research in China and the Chinese-speaking region.
The successful candidate will be expected to work on an independent research programme as well as contribute to joint research projects, participate in and organise conferences, workshops, symposia, and other activities, contribute high level publications and other relevant scholarly outputs, and seek opportunities to obtain research funding and participate in third-party funding applications. They will also be expected to teach courses in the “History and Society” and “Literature and Culture” strands of the Sinology curriculum and take on administrative responsibilities.

Il progetto editoriale ha lo scopo di raccogliere contributi scientifici originali che mettano in luce le specificità della didattica e dell’acquisizione della lingua cinese in Italia, specificità legate sia al tipo di apprendenti, sia al contesto economico, sociale, politico e normativo.

Il volume sarà in lingua italiana e sarà sottoposto a revisione cieca. Il comitato scientifico che si occuperà della revisione delle proposte e dei contributi sarà composto di esperti internazionali. Le scadenze previste sono le seguenti:
- 15/12/2020: invio degli abstract (APA style, 300 parole circa, riferimenti bibliografici inclusi);
- 15/1/2021: notifica di approvazione degli abstract;
- 15/3/2021: invio dei contributi (formato e lunghezza da definire con l’editore).

Le proposte dovranno illustrare il tema da trattare e la sua importanza, nonché il filournalo conduttore tra gli articoli e la rispondenza con gli obiettivi della rivista. Dovranno inoltre contenere un indice completo di autori e titoli (6 o 7, si vedano le norme editoriali), e un breve abstract per ogni articolo. Si darà priorità a proposte che affrontino I seguenti temi: MTC medicina e salute, arti figurative o architettura, scambi scientifici e tecnologici nella prima età moderna o nei secc. XIX e XX). Entro un mese si invierà notifica di accettazione e si fornirà la scadenza per l’invio dei saggi. Eventuali altre proposte verranno prese in considerazione per numeri di anni successivi.

University Lectureship in Chinese Language and Linguistics, Cambridge
The Department of East Asian Studies seeks to appoint a University Lecturer in Chinese Language and Linguistics. We welcome applicants trained in Chinese linguistics who also have knowledge of, and experience in, language teaching, testing, syllabus design, the development of teaching materials, and language pedagogy. The ability to
conduct linguistic and empirical research in L2 Chinese bilingualism/multilingualism is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Chinese language and linguistics or a related discipline and will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research. She or he will be expected to direct the modern Chinese language program; engage in high-level research; develop impact programmes outside academia; publish in their
specialist field and seek opportunities to obtain external funding for that research; offer teaching and supervision on one or more of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of East Asian Studies; contribute to the growth of their specialist field and China Studies more generally; assist with running the Department's various
programmes, including the organization of seminars, conferences, year abroad, and outreach activities as well as shouldering appropriate administrative duties.

Position:
Full-time, permanent Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) in Chines
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Liverpool wishes to appoint a full-time, permanent Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) in Chinese to contribute to and further develop our successful and innovative delivery of Chinese language teaching at undergraduate level and to enhance our new MA in Chinese-English Translation and Interpreting. The postholder will also contribute to ongoing departmental and School initiatives in language teaching and learning that form part of a wider Liverpool Languages Strategy, and develop collaborative opportunities with our partner university in China, Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU).
You will hold a relevant postgraduate or professional qualification in a discipline directly relevant to language teaching and/or translation and interpreting. Experience of teaching Chinese at undergraduate level in a Higher Education Institution is essential, as is experience of module design, delivery and assessment. Experience of devising and delivering module components in translation and/or interpreting is desirable, as is teaching experience at postgraduate level and an active interest in methods of authentic assessment. In particular, we welcome candidates with practical expertise in the field of translation and/or interpreting, who have strong links to the translation and interpreting industry.
In your application statement we specifically invite you to set out your plans for the design and delivery of a course in Intermediate Chinese language for Year Two students. Your proposal should consist of two twelve-week modules, one in each semester, and make explicit reference to the incorporation of Year Abroad preparation.
